Where TransDisplay Is Actually Being Used
According to the release, the Ōme City Government in Tokyo has deployed TransDisplay at its Children and Family Center, a setting VMFi highlights specifically because consultations there, covering pregnancy, childbirth, and childcare, require both accurate information and a level of comfort that can be hard to establish across a language barrier using a phone-based translation app or a formal interpreter. A resident navigating an unfamiliar language while discussing a sensitive medical or family matter faces a different challenge than, say, ordering food or asking for directions, since precision and a sense of being heard both matter more in that context, which is presumably why VMFi chose to highlight this particular deployment rather than a more transactional one. VMFi says TransDisplay is also active at Taipei Taoyuan International Airport (TPE) and Taiwan Taoyuan’s TSA gates, at train stations, and at Taipei101 metro station, and that its deployment has expanded through participation in “Be Smart Tokyo Inclusive,” an accessibility program run by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government. What’s New: On-Device Translation
