ZenaTech Inc. (Nasdaq: ZENA) is a Vancouver-based technology company developing AI-enabled drones while operating Drone as a Service (DaaS) and enterprise software businesses. In the first quarter of 2026, the company reported revenue of CAD $8.4 million, with approximately 93% coming from its acquisition-driven DaaS segment.
ZenaTech’s unaudited quarterly results also showed a net loss of CAD $26.5 million, CAD $8.5 million in cash and CAD $6.4 million in marketable securities as of March 31. Operations used CAD $18.8 million in cash during the quarter, while financing activities provided CAD $22.7 million, including CAD $12.8 million from share sales.
ZenaTech said on Aug. 4 that its ZenaDrone subsidiary had filed five U.S. provisional patent applications covering acoustic fire suppression and aerial wildfire assessment technologies.
The company plans to integrate the proposed systems with its ZenaDrone 1000, a 12-by-7-foot autonomous drone capable of carrying up to 40 kilograms. The aircraft can also be equipped with thermal-imaging and LiDAR sensors.
The proposed suppression system would use low-frequency sound rather than spraying water, foam or chemicals to disrupt flames. ZenaTech said coordinated drone swarms could eventually extend its range and combine fire detection, targeting and suppression.
These capabilities remain under development. The announcement does not identify the five applications by title or application number, provide field-test data, disclose a working acoustic payload or name a pilot customer.
CEO Shaun Passley said the technology is intended to complement conventional firefighting methods while keeping firefighters “farther from the most dangerous conditions.” ZenaTech expects to continue research, engineering and field testing throughout 2026 as it works toward potential commercial and government pilots.
A provisional patent application is not an issued patent and is not examined on its merits. It establishes an early filing date, but an applicant generally must file a corresponding nonprovisional application within 12 months to preserve that benefit.
ZenaTech previously announced an early wildfire-detection system in April 2025. The company planned to evaluate that system with an unnamed California business protecting a 400-acre tourist property and targeted deployment by the fourth quarter of 2025 if testing succeeded. The Aug. 4 release does not provide an update on that proposed test or deployment.
Upcoming Catalysts
ZenaTech expects to conduct research, engineering and field testing through the remainder of 2026. Measurable future developments could include technical test results, a working acoustic payload, a named pilot partner, corresponding nonprovisional patent applications or a commercial or government contract. None was confirmed in the Aug. 4 announcement.
